Installing Natural Stone Tiles

April 23, 2016DianeTiling Tips

Natural stones are easy to curve and design. Tiles have various shapes and designs that are a wonderful addition to the house interior design. They have a natural color variation and are porous. The tiles are commonly used by builders and designers because they help protect the walls from water splatters and grease. Despite their natural nature, they require sealing. This helps to prevent staining that can occur over time. Furthermore, the tiles need to be cleaned on a regular basis and be sealed up prior to grouting. Natural stone tiles are good for home décor. Designers and builders should be well acquainted on how and where to install the tiles. However, there are a few basic things one has to know before installing natural stone tiles in their home.

What are the things you should know when installing natural stone tiles?

What is needed; before starting an installation, one has to be ready with a few rrequirements

  1. The stone cleaner- this is to make the stone finer, smoother and in the right shape and size.
  2. Clean cloths
  3. The stone sealer
  4. An open mouthed container- this should be big and wide enough to fit a paintbrush.
  5. A foam paintbrush
  • Prepare tiles for grouting; make sure you clean the surface of the stone tile before grouting. When setting the tiles, remove any spacers. Use a natural stone sealant to completely seal the tiles. Make sure you follow the instructions of the manufacturer. This prevents the stone from being discolored by grout.
  • Apply grout on the tile by moving the grouting float in a circular motion. Ensure that the grout fills the gaps between the tiles. It is important to note that you can only apply grout that you can clean up. Do not let the grout dry up on the surface because it will be hard to remove during clean-up
  • Clean tile; when the grout has lightly dried up; wipe the surface with a clean cloth or a damp sponge.
  • With the tiles that were sealed up, rub them in a circular motion until the tiles are dried up. Keep buffing until the tiles tackiness is gone.
  • If one chooses to apply a color enhancing sealer, they are needed to apply a coat of impregnating sealer. This is applied to the backsplash.

Conclusion

Natural stone tiles need a lot of care and attention. Make sure you get the right person who can install them for you if you cannot do it correctly.
