Limestone is a sedimentary rock that is commonly used for flooring, wall tiles, and countertops. But regardless of the magic and uniqueness of limestone tiles, they are always tricky to clean during the rainy season. Mildew stains are never easy to handle.. To make it worse, some people make the mistake of using strong cleaning products that do not have a neutral pH; this ends up doing more harm than good. The detergents break down the surface of the limestone making it weak. The mildew and rain stains show up on the lighter colored tiles like limestone, marble and travertine.
Mildew stains cannot be easily cleaned off. However, you need to kill the mildew or algae. If you leave the mildew un-cleaned it might extend to the exterior wall tiles and porous spots. You must be careful when cleaning the mildew; you must get it right each time.
If you have decided to use limestone tiles for your interior and exterior décor, be sure to acquaint yourself with the procedures of how to clean them.
